McDonald’s is inviting fans to celebrate their grandmothers and recreate cherished memories with the launch of the Grandma McFlurry, available for a limited time starting May 21. This new treat aims to honor the special bond between grandmas and their grandchildren, reminiscent of those sweet moments shared over a favorite dessert.
The Grandma McFlurry is a tasty and cozy blend of creamy vanilla soft serve, rich syrup, and crunchy candy pieces, reminiscent of grandma’s favorite purse-tucked treats. It’s the perfect indulgence to share with grandma or the grandmother-figure in your life.
An Extra Sweet Way to Connect with Grandma
In addition to the launch of the Grandma McFlurry, McDonald’s is offering another way for fans to connect with their grandmothers through music. Partnering with breakthrough artists, McDonald’s is reimagining classic hit songs.
Singer-songwriter Remi Wolf will cover Marvin Gaye’s How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved by You), available on all music platforms starting May 21. Additionally, two-time Latin GRAMMY nominee Jay Wheeler will cover the iconic Latin song Piel Canela.
Created by Wieden+Kennedy, these ads feature real grandmothers and their grandchildren enjoying McDonald’s in various familiar settings like their homes, cars, and porches.
The campaign captures the warmth and diversity of these relationships, showcasing people from various ethnicities and backgrounds. Grandchildren affectionately refer to their grandmothers using terms like abuela, nana, yia-yia, gigi, mimi, and grams, reflecting the rich cultural tapestry of McDonald’s customer base. Watch below:
“Grandmas have always held a special place in our hearts, and today they’re having a major moment influencing culture – inspiring trends in fashion, decor, and now, even food with our newest McFlurry,” said Tariq Hassan, Chief Marketing and Customer Experience Officer at McDonald’s. “The Grandma McFlurry tastes like a trip down memory lane, and we’re excited to give our fans that experience while honoring the grandma-figure in all our lives.”
Grandma’s McFlurry Mobile: A Nostalgic Twist
To kick off the celebration, McDonald’s is introducing Grandma’s McFlurry Mobile, an ice cream truck that offers a free first taste of the new McFlurry before it hits restaurants. This mobile treat experience will tour New York City, bringing joy to senior centers and assisted living homes, fostering connections between grandparents and their families.
In honor of this special occasion, McDonald’s will also donate to Little Brothers – Friends of the Elderly, a national organization dedicated to supporting older adults experiencing isolation and loneliness.
Whether she is your Grams, Abuela, Oma, Lola, Halmoni, or Yiayia, celebrate your beloved grandmother by sharing a new Grandma McFlurry from McDonald’s starting May 21, while supplies last.
