The beloved stars of the iconic ’70s sitcom Good Times reunited on January 20 at the 2024 Urban One Honors to commemorate the show’s 50th anniversary. Jimmie “JJ” Walker, Bern Nadette Stanis, and Ralph Carter, key members of the cast, came together to celebrate the enduring legacy of the sitcom.
Good Times, which made its debut in 1974, ran for six seasons and produced 133 episodes. The series, created by Mike Evans, Eric Monte, and Norman Lear, portrayed the life of a family in Chicago’s Cabrini-Green public housing project. The late Esther Rolle played the matriarch, and John Amos portrayed the father. Last year, Amos faced controversy related to his health care, with allegations of elder abuse.

Amos was reportedly hospitalized in the summer, and his daughter Shannon Amos claimed he had suffered from “elder abuse and financial exploitation” by a caregiver. Shannon initiated a GoFundMe campaign to raise funds for her father’s medical needs and legal assistance to address the alleged perpetrators.
In response to the allegations, Amos told TMZ that the details provided by his daughter were false, denying any abuse and stating that he was not fighting for his life.
Bern Nadette Stanis publicly supported Amos during the controversy, expressing her love for him and acknowledging the challenges of caring for an aging parent in an exclusive interview with People. Stanis emphasized the fear among siblings when facing the responsibility of caring for an aging parent.
