Golan’s new 6-camera remote production truck

Golan Productions unveils its new six-camera remote production truck, customized for concerts and special events, at an open house Thursday, July 23 at their studio on the Chicago River ‘s North Branch.

“Instead of renting trucks when we need them for multi-camera events, we’ll have them in our inventory,” said Ari Golan, owner of Golan Productions and sister company Atomic Imaging.

The new HD-SDI multi-camera remote truck features six Sony XDCAM EX3 HD cameras, 70 channels of 5.1 surround Pro Tools HD audio, all tapeless.

“A lot of the larger trucks on the market are designed for sports. They’re overkill for music. This truck is designed with live music recording and special events in mind,” Golan said.

Golan designed the truck’s video component with staff engineer Terry Shaughnessy. Dick Bond of Chicago Music Rental designed the audio component, and the truck was completed in early July at Bond’s Madison facility.

Golan can supply the crew of 12-20 staff and freelancers to run the truck, rent the truck out a la carte, or work with a combination of crew supplied by his company and the client. Not counting crew, the truck rents for $10,500/day for a complete package, or $6,000 for video or audio only.

Product Productions also will exhibit its new honey wagon and Mobile Production vehicle at his event.

The day after the open house, Golan takes the new truck out on its maiden voyage, capturing a performance by country outfit Williams Riley at Joe’s on Weed Street. Golan is video/technical director of the six-camera shoot for regular client Golden Music of Nashville.

Over the past three years, Golan has directed a series of shoots for Golden, Nashville event producers 262 Five, and Netflix: celebrities performing with their band before screenings of their films.
