Going beyond the clip: Thought Equity delivers infinite pre-shot online motion content choices

Shooting on location soon might become an unnecessary expense as producers increasingly turn to the use of pre-shot motion content.

“People don’t need to re-shoot what already exists; they can just apply their creativity to how it’s put together,” says Kevin Schaff, founder/CEO of Thought Equity Motion, the world’s largest supplier of online motion content.

Schaff founded Denver-headquartered Thought Equity Motion (TEM) in 2003 after realizing that the market for online footage was still in its infancy.

Capitalizing on the billions of dollars of “great content just sitting out there,” TEM now has six offices, including one opened in Chicago one year ago.

The Chicago office has 10 employees led by C.J. Berg, Midwest sales director, who oversees operations for 13 states, from Wisconsin to Texas.

Berg sees the office staff growing rapidly to keep pace with business, currently increasing at a rate of 19% a year.

“While our competitors focus on licensing clips, we strive to help our clients tell full stories,” Berg says.

Its local client list includes Resolution Digital Studios, Towers Productions, DraftFCB, Leo Burnett, Euro RSCG, DDB, Motorola, JWT Chicago, Optimus, Cutters, and Teamworks Media.

A large portion of clips are available in HD and, for a competitive edge, formats are delivered online within minutes. Clients can make their own site search or TEM’s research team will find content at no cost.

“We have an extensive royalty free, rights managed and micro payment collection. Some of our content can be purchased for less than $50 per clip,” says Berg.

“We’re trying to be the company that fits directly in between desktop editors and the global marketplace for video content,” says Schaff.
