Global Video ups Liz Sweeney to GM

For the first time in its 12 years of business, Global Video has a new general manager.

She is film and duplication veteran Liz Sweeney, who has been with Global Video for six years as development director. She replaces founder George Marton, who stepped away from the company he managed to work on a long-range special project.

“Liz is an enormous asset, with a level of credibility and industry experience very few others in Chicago can match,” said Adam Marton, president, who succeeded his father as company president, but retained his executive producer role.

Sweeney was literally born into the film business. She spent her entire career, until 2003, at now-defunct Cinema Video Center, a family business co-owned by her father, Joe Palese, presently with Master Images, where she learned the entirety of production, finishing and duplication from the bottom up.

Said Palese, smiling when he learned of his daughter’s promotion, “I would never have sold my business had I know just how successful Liz is.”

During her nearly 20 years at Cinema, Sweeney honed her skills by working in every department, spending a decade in audio engineering.

Deciding she was better at business than creative, she took over audio sales and quadrupled business in one year, and converted Cinema’s audio room into one of the city’s busiest.

Later, Sweeney, as head of the department, applied her sales skills to turn Cinema Video’s broadcast spot duplication department into a large national entity that serviced agencies, feature film distributors and retail VHS clients.

Leaving Cinema Video in 2003, she joined Global Video, “bringing in major national duplication clients, and proving that her number one concern is what’s best for clients every time,” Adam Marton said.

“She embraces new technology and offers up helpful innovation every step of the way.”

Global Video is located at 230 E. Ohio; phone, 312/472-9200.
