Byron Allen’s Freestyle Digital Media picks up Chicago-made All Happy Families

Freestyle Digital Media, the digital film distribution arm of Byron Allen’s Allen Media Group, has secured North American theatrical, VOD, and DVD rights to the Chicago made dramatic comedy All Happy Families.

The film premiered at the 59th Chicago International Film Festival and the Mill Valley Film Festival last October. It recently had its Southern California premiere at the 27th Annual Dances With Films: L.A. independent film festival. Freestyle Digital Media plans a limited theatrical and VOD release for fall 2024.

All Happy Families follows the Landrys, a non-stereotypical Midwestern family. This charming dramedy stars Josh Radnor (Hunters, Fleishman Is in Trouble) as Graham, an actor and writer in a slump, waiting for his big break. His successful brother Will, (Rob Huebel), stars in his own television series. On the weekend before new tenant Dana (Chandra Russell) moves into their childhood home, the siblings and their parents find themselves under the same roof, where secrets and surprises surface, and long-held resentments are aired. The ensemble cast includes Becky Ann Baker as the matriarch Sue, who’s tired of holding everything together, and John Ashton (Midnight Run, She’s Having A Baby) as her husband Roy. The film presents a deeply relatable portrait of family dysfunction, unfolding over one eventful weekend. The cast also features Colleen Camp (Lila), David Pasquesi (Jerry), Rodney Crowell (Dino), and Ivy O’Brien (Evie).

Directed by Haroula Rose, All Happy Families was co-written by Haroula Rose and Coburn Goss, and produced by Liz Cardenas, Coburn Goss, Ian Keiser, Haroula Rose, and Mary Muñez, Michael Shannon served as Executive Producer.

All Happy Families tells an amazing and humorous slice-of-life story about family dysfunction in Chicago,” said Bill Vergos, Head of Digital Film Distribution for Freestyle Digital Media. “We are excited to distribute a movie with such a stellar cast to theatrical audiences this fall.”

Filmmaker Haroula Rose added, “It’s been incredible to hear so much laughter and genuine emotional response in theaters during festival screenings of All Happy Families. We are excited to partner with Freestyle Digital Media to bring this to audiences in the fall, before a wider streaming release. It’s a non-traditional movie about coming of age at any age, which I hope resonates with all viewers.”

Freestyle Digital Media negotiated the deal to acquire All Happy Families with the filmmakers and sales agent Tiffany Boyle of Ramo Law PC.
