Film adaptation of best seller to shoot in Michigan

Film crews are being sought for a Paramount feature that will start filming in Michigan this fall: “Looking for Alaska,” based on John Green’s best-selling novel.

The story is set in the Culver Creek boarding school and centers on Alaska Young, the reckless girl who’s the object of affection for most males in the school.

It’s expected to hire cast and crew of 200 Michigan residents and 1,700 extras. Interested crew may send their resumes to lfafeature@gmail.com.

Based on its projected state “spend” of $21 million, “Alaska” will receive an incentive of more than $7 million.

The Michigan Film Office says the project was approved prior to the July 10 legislative ending of the state’s seven years of film incentives.

The film will be directed by Rebecca Thomas from a screenplay by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, who also scripted the adaptation of Green’s “The Fault in Our Stars.”

Green’s novel “Paper Towns” was also adapted for film.

Specific shooting locations have not yet been announced, but should be identified in the next few weeks.

The Michigan Film Office presently remains open to attract business and promote the growth of the state’s film industry.
