Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss one of Chicago’s most iconic movie anniversaries. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, On Location Tours is launching a special one-day walking tour through downtown Chicago on June 11, exactly 40 years after the beloved John Hughes classic premiered in theaters.
The two-hour guided experience will take fans through some of the movie’s most memorable Chicago locations, including the front steps of the Art Institute of Chicago, Daley Plaza, the famous parade route, the parking garage where the Ferrari-taking valets made cinematic history, and Willis Tower, still known to many Chicagoans as the Sears Tower.
Led by a local actor guide, the tour begins at Relish Chicago Hot Dogs on South Michigan Avenue and concludes at Willis Tower. Guests will also have the opportunity to participate in Ferris Bueller trivia contests and win prizes along the way.
In honor of the film’s 1986 release, public tickets are priced at $19.86.
The celebration comes as Ferris Bueller’s Day Off remains one of Chicago’s most enduring pop culture exports. Directed by legendary filmmaker John Hughes and starring Matthew Broderick, Alan Ruck, Mia Sara and Jeffrey Jones, the film transformed downtown Chicago into one of cinema’s most recognizable playgrounds and helped cement the city as a character in its own right.
As part of the anniversary event, Relish Chicago Hot Dogs will offer discounted food and beverage specials for tour participants, including Chicago-style hot dogs, veggie dogs, chips, and drinks.
The special anniversary tour takes place Thursday, June 11, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
For Chicago movie fans, it’s a chance to retrace the footsteps of Ferris, Cameron, and Sloane exactly four decades after they played hooky and gave the city one of its most memorable days off.
