Father Pfleger doc premieres at Black Harvest

Firebrand South Side pastor Rev. Michael Pfleger is the latest documentary subject for Bob Hercules of Media Process Group, whose prior films tell the stories of then-Senator Barack Obama, community organizing pioneer Saul Alinsky, and controversial Holocaust survivor Eva Kor.

Hercules’ “Radical Disciple: The Story of Father Pfleger” premieres Aug. 28 among the two documentaries, four features and eight shorts in the Gene Siskel Film Center’s 15th Annual Black Harvest International Festival of Film and Video, running Aug. 7-Sept. 3.

Following Rev. Pfleger’s decades of activism as pastor of St. Sabina Parish, including his removal from that position by the Archdiocese of Chicago and his reinstatement after community outcry, “Radical Disciple” “captures the charisma of the crusading priest and his ?gospel of the streets’ while exploring the larger issues of tensions between the Church and its African American flock,” says Black Harvest programmer Barbara Scharres.

Produced by Hercules and Terrie Pickeril, “Radical Disciple” screens Aug. 28 at 8:15 p.m. and Aug. 30 at 5 p.m.
