Family, friends mourn loss of Barbara Petersen

A memorial service for Barbara Petersen, wife of Dan Moore, DGA Midwest executive director, will be held Sunday at the Luther Memorial Church, 2500 W. Wilson at 5 p.m., preceded by visitation from 2 to 4 p.m. at the church, in which she had been active for many years.

Mrs. Moore collapsed suddenly Tuesday night and died from a pulmonary embolism. She is survived by her husband and two children, Caitlin, 23 and Greg, 20.

A catered reception will follow the services at the church, as a tribute to her love of entertaining family and friends, her husband said.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Le Ballet Petit Guild, 4630 N. Francisco Ave., Chicago, Il. 60625 or Luther Memorial Church, 2500 W. Wilson Ave., Chicago, Il. 60625

THE PROPOSAL to set up an eight person Cook County Film & Entertainment Commission has been tabled for now, we hear. Proposed in its place is a smaller and more practical office consisting of three persons: A commissioner, an assistant and an IT person. The commissioner undoubtedly will be appointed by board president Todd Stroger.

A budget of $250,000 was announced for the proposed eight person film commission, so the assumption is that same amount will remain in place to cover the costs of the three employees and an office.

A central source to issue film permits and talk up the locations within its purview is a good idea, providing there are enough permits to justify the cost and generate new revenue for the county.

Producers in the past who sought permission to film on county property have no kind words to say about the way they were treated and the unrealistic demands the county imposed on their use of the property.

That could change for the better if Stroger actually appoints a knowledgable person from the local film community to oversee the system correctly so the office is a credit to the state.
