Facets, CFW’s African America film fest, Aug. 1, 4

Filmmaker Barbara Allen, special fest guest Aug. 4

The Community Film Workshop partnered with Facets Multi-Media to present ReelFilms@Harris Park – a first-time film festival of independent films highlighting Chicago’s African American community.

Free programs are Wednesday, Aug. 1 and Saturday, Aug. 4, both at 1 p.m., at the Community Film Workshop at Harris Park, 6200 S. Drexel.

“All the afternoon summer programs are family-friendly and show how independent filmmakers succeed in telling stories that reflect the lives of real people in the community,” says Margaret Caples, the long-time executive director of the Community Film Workshop.  Since 1971, CFW has provided video and multimedia classes in under-served communities.

The Aug. 1 program: Miss Devine (2010), by Mike and Tim Rauch; Fight the Bad Things (2007), Jenni Linko; Journey to Cape Verde (2010), Jose Miguel Ribeiro and Bronx Princess, (2008) Yoni Brook and Musa Syeed.

The 90-minute Aug. 4 program:
Du Sable to Obama: Chicago’s Black Metropolis (2011), Barbara E. Allen and Daniel Andries.

Special guest: Barbara E. Allen, award-winning producer at WTTW, executive director at Middle Passage Productions.

The free event is made possible, in part, by the MacArthur Fund for Arts and Culture at The Richard H. Driehaus Foundation.
