FACETS celebrates Halfway to Halloween with a weekend of horror flicks

In celebration of Halfway to Halloween, the halfway point to all things scary, FACETS has selected five films for audiences to satisfy their craving for spooky cinema on the big screen. 

Screening at FACETS (1517 W Fullerton Ave) April 28-May 1, 2022, Halfway to Halloween features Rusty Cundieff’s Tales from the Hood (April 28), a double feature of David Cronenberg’s Videodrome and Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Pulse (April 29), Karyn Kusama’s Jennifer’s Body (April 30), and Jordan Peele’s Get Out (May 1).

Tickets cost $9/person per screening, and are free for FACETS Members with proof of active membership.

Tales from the Hood – Thursday April 28, 2022 at 9:30pm When this 1995 horror anthology film premiered it was underseen and misunderstood. Now over 25 years later, it’s four comedic and conscious tales, about issues affecting African American communities, are still tragically relevant today.  

Directed by Rusty Cundieff, U.S.A., 1995, 98 mins.  


Videodrome – Friday, April 29, 2022 at 7:00pm
The master of body-horror David Cronenberg takes on the media, technology, and their effects on humans in his highly provocative and influential 1983 social satire starring Debbie Harry in one of her first film roles. 

Directed by David Cronenberg, Canada, 1983, 88 mins.  


Pulse – Friday, April 29, 2022 at 9:00pm In his film that has become even more relevant since the days of mandatory lockdowns worldwide, writer/director Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s Pulse uses terrifying genre conventions to explore technological escapism and isolation.  

Directed by Kiyoshi Kurosawa, Japan, 2001, 119 mins.  


Jennifer’s Body – Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 7:00pm
A prime example of studio marketing getting in the way of director + writer’s vision, pithy horror comedy Jennifer’s Body has gained a cult status as a feminist queer classic in the years since its 2009 release. 

Directed by Karyn Kusama, U.S.A., 2009, DCP, 102 mins. 


Get Out – Sunday, May 1 2022 at 5:00pm
A thriller from Blumhouse Productions and the mind of Jordan Peele, the first African-American writer/director to cross $100 million at the box office with his debut film, GET OUT is a dark and unsettling break-out hit that is deeply relevant to modern day topics, captivating audiences with thrilling conflicts and danger at every turn,

Ticketing and More:Tickets are $9 /general public and Free/ FACETS Members. Guests are invited to stop by before the screening to hangout in The Café to browse films and chat with friends. Concession items are available for purchase.
