Facebook announces Chicago expansion

“Our continued investment
in this community
underscores its
strong talent pipeline
and
thriving technology
ecosystem.”

(Chicago — 23 July 2018) Facebook reported today that is expanding its presence in downtown Chicago.

According to company representatives, the gargantuan social media provider has leased 263,000 square feet — an area large enough to house between 1,000 and 2,000 employees — at 151 N. Franklin St.

The address is home to a new 35-story glass office tower on the northeast corner of Randolph and Franklin.

Facebook — which has grown a Chicago office from one to three floors at 191 N. Wacker Dr. since 2016 — did not indicate if its staff would be consolidated into the new location.

But according to a statement from U.S. head of industry, Matty de Castro, the company plans to get busy either way.

“Chicago has been our Midwest home since 2007, and we’re excited to grow our presence here with increased hiring and a new office at 151 North Franklin,” she said.

“Our continued investment in this community underscores its strong talent pipeline and thriving technology ecosystem, which make it a great location to expand our Global Marketing Solutions and Recruiting teams. Thanks to Mayor Emanuel for his ongoing support of the tech sector and for creating a business environment in Chicago for companies like Facebook to grow and thrive.”
