Editor Gail Gilbert’s “Democracy” short action film that she wrote and directed will screen for members of the cast, crew and supporters Monday, May 4 at the Alliance Francaise de Chicago.
The film is based on a short story her father wrote in the 1970s. “I didn’t really understand it until I took a lesson on political opinion,” she says. “The film shocks the viewer into thinking about the democratic system, why it works and how it could easily fail.”
Barbara Steiglitz produced; DP was Ryan Berena; set/wardrobe and prop master Gaby Kuhn; Amanda Marien edited and Sal Cordova provided the music score. Christine Saldanha was the creative consultant.
“It was a communal effort to pull off a shoot of this size, with a cast of ten and two buses carrying 60 extras (for interior scenes of a bus which is the film’s location)careening through the Loop.”
Gilbert heads boutique creative editorial Cerise Films, which serves both General and Hispanic markets; 213 W. Institute Place; phone 312/469-0822.
