At the 2024 Emmy Awards, The Bear star Ebon Moss-Bachrach not only celebrated his second consecutive win for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series, but also shared exciting details about his role as Ben Grimm, aka The Thing, in Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four: First Steps.
While accepting his award for his performance in The Bear, Moss-Bachrach gave fans a glimpse into his journey of transforming into one of Marvel’s most beloved characters.
During a conversation with Variety on the red carpet, Moss-Bachrach revealed that filming for The Fantastic Four is well underway, with about six weeks of production completed. He explained the unique demands of his role as The Thing, noting, “I’m doing a lot of motion capture, so for maximum-data facial capture, I have to be clean-shaven.” While he hasn’t yet seen the finished version of his CGI-heavy character, Moss-Bachrach shared his excitement, saying, “There are hundreds of animators working on it, and I can’t wait to see the final result.”
Alongside Moss-Bachrach, the Fantastic Four cast includes Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards, Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, and Joseph Quinn as Johnny Storm. The camaraderie among the cast was evident as Moss-Bachrach fondly recounted a touching moment when his co-stars surprised him with flowers and champagne before he left London for the Emmy Awards. “It’s really kind. I teared up a little bit,” he said, emphasizing the bond he has built with his fellow Marvel stars.
As The Bear continues to rack up accolades, Moss-Bachrach’s dual success in both the comedy world and the superhero genre highlights his versatility as an actor. Fans can expect to see him in action as The Thing when The Fantastic Four: First Steps releases in theaters on July 25, 2025.
