After leaving Chicago Fire last year following a 12-season run, Eamonn Walker is set to make his highly anticipated return as First Deputy Commissioner Wallace Boden for a one-night-only appearance. Walker will step back into his role for the April 16 episode titled “Post-Mortem,” airing at 9 p.m. on NBC.
Walker’s departure from the series last season saw Boden accepting a promotion to Deputy Commissioner of the Chicago Fire Department, leaving Firehouse 51 under new leadership. His return, however, brings him back into the thick of things as he is tasked with running a post-incident analysis following a devastating house fire that collapsed with a firefighter still inside
According to the Hollywood Reporter, showrunner Andrea Newman teased Walker’s return, promising that the episode will be a thrill ride unlike any the show has done before. Told through flashbacks and different points of view, the storyline follows Boden as he leads the search for answers about how the fire started, who was responsible, and why it ended in disaster.
“We’re so excited to have our beloved Chief Boden back,” Newman shared. “This episode is a unique, twisty-turny ride that puts Boden at the center of it all.”
Why Boden Was Missing From the Chicago Fire Crossover
Fans may have wondered why Walker was absent from Chicago Fire’s recent three-way crossover event with Chicago P.D. and Chicago Med, which aired on January 29. Newman explained that his absence was due to Dom Pascal (Dermot Mulroney) taking over Firehouse 51’s leadership. However, she assured fans that the plan was always to bring Boden back, and this special episode delivers on that promise.
The State of Firehouse 51 in Season 13
With Boden moving up the ranks, Firehouse 51 has had to adjust to new leadership. Mulroney’s character, Dom Pascal, has stepped into the role of Chief, bringing his own style and authority to the firehouse. However, Boden’s presence still lingers over the team, and his return will likely stir up old dynamics as the station grapples with a major crisis.
Walker’s guest appearance is sure to be an emotional and action-packed moment for longtime fans of the series. As Newman puts it, “Boden is still a part of our world.”
Chicago Fire is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group, in association with Wolf Entertainment. The April 16 episode, “Post-Mortem,” will mark a must-watch moment in the show’s 13th season.
