Dominic Rains is leaving Chicago Med as a series regular

As suspected, following the Chicago Med season 9 finale, emergency room surgeon Dr. Crockett Marcel (played by Dominic Rains) will be leaving Gaffney Medical Center.

According to Deadline, Rains is leaving the NBC medical drama as a series regular. It remains uncertain if he will return as a guest star in the upcoming 10th season.

The Season 9 finale hinted at Rains’ potential exit when Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) advised Crockett to take all the time he needs after the deaths of a young patient and the boy’s father. The tragedy occurred when Crockett canceled a planned liver transplant due to an infection, despite the father’s pleas that not proceeding would be a death sentence for his son. After the boy’s death, his heartbroken father took his own life. The news profoundly affected Crockett, stirring memories of losing his own baby daughter to leukemia.

Chicago Med follows the emotional and chaotic daily life of the city’s newest state-of-the-art trauma center, showcasing the lives of the doctors, nurses, and staff who keep it running. The series is part of the One Chicago franchise, which includes Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D., and often features crossovers with these shows.

Crockett Marcel was introduced as a recurring character at the beginning of Season 5, with Rains soon being promoted to a series regular.

Since its debut in 2015, Chicago Med has been praised for its compelling storylines and strong character development, tackling complex medical and ethical issues. The series has built a loyal fan base and continues to be a staple in NBC’s primetime lineup.
