Doc about rapper Twista shoots here in June

New York-based Vladar Company is coming to Chicago this June to shoot a 90-minute documentary about Chicago rapper Twista.

“I am looking forward to shooting in Chicago and telling the story about Twista, a great American artist,” director Vlad Yudin says. “We will reveal the rich music culture and tradition that Chicago has to offer the world.”

EMI Music Label Services is slated to release “Twista” in November as a companion to the rapper’s next album. “They’re targeting for TV and VOD,” says Vladar Company producer Edwin Mejia. “They’ll do a special package to cross-promote it with the album on iTunes.”

The filmmakers will accompany Twista to his old West Side stomping grounds and explore how the neighborhoods have changed during his 20-year career.

“We’re going to focus a lot on the violence in Chicago and how music and culture affects the community, and touch on the Obama name as well,” Mejia says.
