Disney leaves Mickey Home Alone this Christmas

Disney is putting a new spin on a holiday classic. Disney Branded Television has announced Mickey Home Alone, a new animated Christmas special that adapts the familiar setup made famous by the 1990 hit Home Alone. The special will follow Mickey Mouse after he is accidentally left behind during the holidays and must protect his home from a pair of intruders.

The project was unveiled as part of Disney Branded Television’s upcoming programming slate and adds to the company’s growing lineup of Mickey Mouse holiday content. Disney has continued to expand its seasonal programming in recent years with a variety of Christmas-themed specials featuring Mickey and his friends across Disney Jr. and Disney+.

While Mickey Home Alone is not a remake of the original film starring Macaulay Culkin, it draws inspiration from one of the most recognizable holiday movie premises ever created. The special effectively combines the enduring appeal of Mickey Mouse with a story framework that has entertained audiences for more than three decades.

The story: When Minnie surprises the gang with tickets to spend Christmas at a world-famous Ice Palace, a mix-up leaves Mickey and Pluto behind, home alone. Instead of criminals, the duo must protect their cozy Christmas dinner from two feisty intruders: a raccoon and a weasel. Meanwhile, Minnie and the rest of the gang desperately try to find their way back home.

The announcement also marks another use of the Home Alone brand by Disney, which acquired the franchise through its purchase of 21st Century Fox. Disney previously revisited the property with the Disney+ feature Home Sweet Home Alone in 2021.

Additional details, including a premiere date and voice cast, have not yet been announced.

You can look forward to streaming the special on Disney+ when it drops for the holiday season.
