At DHV auction, sale pleases buyers and seller

Del Hall was all smiles at the end of the Tuesday auction of equipment and fixtures of his soon-to-close Del Hall Video.

Some 300 serious bidders on the premises and via the Internet brought Hall’s studio and postproduction gear at prices that satisfied both buyer and seller.

A team of auctioneers from Paul Finn & Associates of Boston, specialists in audiovisual equipment, conducted the fast-paced eight hour sale.

The auction was held in the Del Hall Video stage in their building at 1240 W. Jackson, in a neighborhood that has rapidly changed from light industry to trendy condos.

Del and Ginger Hall will close their 25-year old production/post company June 1. When a developer came knocking, the offer to sell their property was too irresistible to refuse.

The property buyers are the same developers who recently purchased the Orbis building nearby at 135 S. Sangamon. Low-rise condominiums will be erected on both parcels.

While most of the buyers were locals who snapped up some outstanding bargains in the late afternoon, bidders attended from throughout the world, including South America and Africa. Two production executives from Uruguay stayed all day to purchase a variety of gear to for their Catholic network studios.

Upon closing the studios, the Halls will segue into film production for a variety of non-profit organizations, including the Chicago Public School system.

Until June 1, they can be reached at 312/733-6500.
