The Abdullah Saeed pilot Deli Boys that filmed in Chicago last October, has been picked up by Disney’s Onyx Collective, which showcases content from creators of color and underrepresented groups.
The 20th Century Studios 10-episode comedy series, set to film in Chicago, will stream exclusively on Hulu in the U.S., Star+ in Latin America, and Disney+ in all other territories.
The story is about a pair of pampered Pakistani-American brothers (Asif Ali and Saagar Shaikh) whose convenience-store magnate father dies, forcing them to reckon with their Baba’s secret life of crime. Ali will play Mir Dar, a hardworking son who is eager to impress his father, Baba — a scrappy immigrant who arrived in the U.S. broke, and built an empire from scratch. Shaikh will play Mir’s brother Raj, who’s a pot-smoking and entitled playboy living the high life on his father millions. Alfie Fuller plays Prairie, Raj’s shaman who’s also a drugged-out hipster who lives with him and various other hangers-on in stoner heaven luxury. Poorna Jagannathan will play Lucky, Baba’s right-hand woman. She can be very caring or a badass business boss lady, depending on what’s needed.
