DDB helps Skittles show where Sweet Heat comes from

DDB Chicago helped Skittles retain its top place on the eclectic advertising mantel with a new 15-second commercial starring a pair of unkempt basement dwellers.

Skittles’ Rile the Rainbow commercial offers no context for the characters who “love these Sweet Heat Skittles,” but that doesn’t matter.

The spot by DDB Chicago earns an enthusiastic double take for implying that the candy is manufactured with rainbow magic on a rusty grill supported by cinderblocks in a grungy industrial cubbyhole.

Rile the Rainbow, which is currently running online, supports the national launch of Skittles Sweet Heat, a spicy new version of the colorful jellybeanesque candy manufactured by the Wrigley Company, a division of Mars, Inc.

Other elements of the campaign include new print creative and owned social.

Among those elements is an ad featuring a colorful Skittles rainbow getting a jumpstart from a car battery.

“In each piece of creative, you see characters ‘Rile the Rainbow’ to unleash the spicy side of the familiar fruity rainbow and extract its ultimate sweet heat pleasure,” explained a press release about the campaign issued today.

Other work by DDB for Skittles includes a Super Bowl spot starring David Schwimmer and an anonymous teen.
