Daufenbach Camera received early RED’s Scarlet-X 4K camera serial numbers 22 and 33 of the revolutionary new cameras that were shipped to buyers a few weeks ago, making it the first Scarlet-X to land in Chicago and the Midwest.
The West Loop camera rental house specializes in RED and 3D cameras to service any size production.
Since RED announced Scarlet-X’s development three years ago at NAB, the small form, five pound camera, considered ideal for 3D and handheld work, has been one of the most anticipated digital cameras on the market, notes rental house owner Lawrence Daufenbach.
The Scarlet-X, meant for professional moviemakers, is built around a “brain” unit, which is available with either a PL or a Canon EOS lens mount. It captures 4K footage (4096×2160) at up to 25 fps, turning out 50 MB of data per second. A stills mode delivers 5120×2700 photos.
Among its features: Scarlet-X has a super35-sized Mysterium-X sensor, capable of up to 12fps at 5K resolution and 30fps in 4K resolution. It has a 13.5 stop dynamic range, which can be boosted up to 18 stops when using the HDRx feature.
It records to Redmag SSDs which come in 64GB, 128GB and 256GB capacities. When shooting in 4K, a 128GB card provides about 50 minutes of recording time when shooting 24fps.
To give users hands-on time with the Scarlet-X and other digital capture cameras, Daufenbach Camera hosts a 5-7 p.m. open house at its office at 320 N. Damen on the last Thursday of the month.
The next open house will be held Dec. 29.
