Sometimes a fresh coat of paint is really about claiming a little space of your own. That’s the idea behind a new Valspar spot from McCann Detroit, produced by Dictionary Films with post handled across the Cutters Studios family.
The 15-second film opens at Lowe’s, where a couple picks up two very different Valspar Ultra colors before heading home to transform separate backyard spaces.
His gets a rich blue treatment, creating a comfortable retreat that feels built for kicking back. Hers goes bright green, turning the neighboring room into an energetic creative studio complete with an easel and art supplies.
The payoff comes when the two emerge from their newly personalized spaces side by side — a simple visual reminder that sharing a home doesn’t mean sharing every square foot of it.
It’s essentially a modern take on his-and-hers rooms, with color doing most of the storytelling. Watch below:

Directed by Cali Bondad through Dictionary Films, the spot moves quickly from the paint purchase to the transformation, using split-screen compositions and tightly matched action to emphasize the contrast between the couple’s individual tastes.
Editor Kevin O’Brien of Cutters keeps the pace brisk, cutting between the two renovations as the blue and green spaces take shape in parallel.
The Cutters Studios collaboration extends through sound and finishing, with Josh Condon of Another Country handling sound design and audio mix, while Flavor’s Ann Allen, Scott Stephens and Mat Mieras contributed Flame, compositing and finishing.
And with the campaign carrying a starting price of $29.98 per gallon for Valspar Ultra at Lowe’s, the transformation is positioned as something relatively attainable.
Fresh paint. Fresh spaces. And perhaps a little domestic harmony in the process.
