The Chicago Cubs and White Sox have both released statements regarding Monday morning’s horrific mass shooting in Highland Park, which killed six people and injured 38.
The Cubs, who were in Milwaukee to play an afternoon game, tweeted, “We are heartbroken and grief-stricken at the senseless violence in Highland Park,” the statement reads. “Our thoughts are with those who have been wounded and our heart goes to the loved ones of those lost or injured and the entire Highland Park community.

After the team’s conversation with MLB, the game was played as scheduled. The postgame fireworks show was canceled, and a moment of silence was observed before the first pitch of the Twins’ 6-3 victory.
“Something needs to change,” White Sox closer Liam Hendriks told USA Today. “Something needs to be done, something needs to happen because there are too many people losing their lives.”
The shooting occurred Monday morning during Highland Park’s Independence Parade. Police joined forces with the FBI and later arrested the suspect, Robert “Bobby” Crimo III. He is now in custody.
