Costello-Stein’s short film wins $5,000

Writer Colin Costello and director Lloyd Stein’s short film, incorporating the iconic Ford Mustang in a storyline, won a $5,000 preliminary prize from the Ford Mustang/Filmaka branded entertainment competition.

Their 5-minute “First Kiss” will be one of nine winning shorts automatically entered for the grand prize of directing a promotional piece introducing the much anticipated 2010 Mustang.

A 60-second version of “First Kiss” aired Wednesday during NBC’s “Knight Rider,” which features a Shelby GT 500KR Mustang in its stories.

Nearly 400 scripts were submitted by filmmakers in 28 countries on six continents. Costello-Stein were among 22 semi-finalists who were greenlighted and given $5,000 in production money to produce their films.

Entrants either chose from eight storylines provided by Ford and JWT Team Detroit or produced their own. Stein and Costello opted to craft their own story.

“First Kiss” is the sixth of what will be nine winners, all of whom will receive an additional $5,000 prize. The grand prize winner will be announced during the L.A. Auto Show takes Nov. 21-30 at the L.A. Convention Center.
