CopyMaster racks up a quarter-century

Villa Park duplication and video production services house CopyMaster Video celebrates 25 years this month in an industry that has been almost entirely transformed since the company opened for business in 1984.

Dave Jones, Jr. has run the multi-service duplication and video company since his father, company founder Dave Jones, Sr., retired in 1998, just as the visual media industry was shifting to digital.

“We’ve always had a wide variety of clients,” says CopyMaster owner, Dave Jones, Jr., “so business is holding its own, diversified as we are with corporate/industrial and walk-in clients. None of what we do goes to retail or TV.”

CopyMaster peaked at 20 employees in 2001, but have since scaled back to a staff of four, as DVDs required less manpower to duplicate and transport.

“Say I needed 10,000 tapes: I needed 5,000 square feet and a truck to deliver two pallets. Now when I need stock, I can go pick up 5,000 pieces and put the box in the back of my Windstar,” says Jones, who began working for the company when he was 19.
