Comma Music hits a high note

Music house Comma has opened a Los Angeles branch for the second time in nearly a decade, and this time will be the charm.

Chicago composer Justin Hori has moved to the Coast as creative director of Comma L.A., and is working out of Jigsaw Editorial in Santa Monica until their new studio is completed in December.

Comma L.A.’s new executive producer is Hollywood-savvy Vicki Ordeshook, who spent 11-years as head of production at top music and sound design house Machine Head in. She is the West Coast counterpart to Chicago executive producer Bonny Dolan.

“We’re very excited about this, with Justin and Vicki,” said Larry Pecorella, Comma composer and partner with Bryan Rheude.

“We feel very fortunate that Vicki, with all her great experience and contacts has come aboard. We tried out an L.A. office from 2001 to 2006, but we weren’t happy with the personnel and scaled it back.”

Comma’s new quarters will be located in a building at 19th St. and Olympic Blvd. in Santa Monica, where Hori will feel right at home being near Avenue, Cutters and Optimus’ long-established California branches.

The 2,700-sq. ft. space will have a studio, four composers’ rooms, two offices where Pecorella, Rheude and Chicago executive producer Bonny Dolan will work on their weekly, rotating trips to the new office, plus client space, a kitchen and a parking lot in the back.
