Comma to make beautiful music in L.A.

While mindful of an uncertain economy but deeming it “a necessity” to open a new market, Comma music partners Bryan Rheude and Larry Pecorella officially opened Comma L.A. Jan. 13, in newly built space in Santa Monica.

The partners had wanted to open an L.A. branch for a long time, and the desire of composer Justin Hori to work in L.A. simply accelerated their time table.

Besides not wanting to lose Hori, composer and creative director of the L.A. studio, said Pecorella, “We needed to open a new market to service our present clients and enlarge our business base. It was a necessity, not even an option, to do this.”

Pecorella spoke from Santa Monica where he, Hori, executive producer Bonny Dolan and associate producer/music researcher Morgan Thoryk are setting up their new 2,700-sq. ft. studio.

The lease was signed Oct. 1 when the space was still under construction by a contractor who specialized in “creative spaces.”

Pecorella acknowledges that the present economy will make going into a new market difficult, but he maintains the new office was “an absolute must,” the next obvious step in the nine-year old company’s growth in connecting with agency clients beyond Chicago.

“We can’t afford to stand still,” he said.
