Comedy “Scrapers” part of bar’s movie & music night

Red Line Tap, the dive bar / music venue in Rogers Park, on Oct. 29 is hosting a “Halloweed” movie and music night, featuring the Chicago-made feature “Scrapers: A Comedy for Romantic Stoners,” followed by live bands Animal City, and Bernie & The Wolf.

“Scrapers” is the first indie production from The Capra Movie House, written, co-produced and directed by Jake S. Weisman.

The story is about Mary (Sally Anderson, “Clean Sheets” who also co-produced) and Hal (Dakota Loesch) who form a unique friendship over lots of grass, pretentious actors, being broke, misguided crushes and lots of grass.

“Hence the “Halloweed” title for Saturday night’s event,” says Red Tap music/talent buyer Sydney Rosenfeld.

“Scrapers” also includes a cameo from Annoyance Theater co-founder Susan Messing (“The Break Up”). Associate producer was Demetra Materis; DP was Lenore Ruth Croow and Matt Gossen edited. Score was composed by Chicago band Netherfriends, which makes an appearance in the film.

Red Tap’s aim, says Rosenfeld, is to host more nights where the bar will screen work of local indie filmmakers. She uncovered The Capra Movie Shouse through the drummer in the Bernie & The Wolf band, who appears in “Scrapers.”

“Scrapers” screening at 6:30 p.m. is free – although The Capra Movie House is also using the occasion to raise funds to help cover production costs, so donations would be appreciated. Cover charge is $5 for the bands’ performances starting at 8:30 p.m. Costumes are encouraged.

Red Line Tap is at 7006 N. Glenwood. Food may be ordered from the Heartland Café, 7000 N. Glenwood. Rosenthal may be contacted via Email, booking@redlinetap.com.
