Columbia grad opens camera rental business

Cinematographer and Local 600 member, Lawrence Daufenbach, is possibly the youngest owner of an affordable camera rental company which has the hot Red camera as its main focus.

A knowledgeable 2008 Columbia College graduate, Daufenbach offers his inventory of five high-quality camera packages and camera crews as part of his newly-established Daufenbach Camera in Logan Square.

Daufenbach Camera has a five-camera inventory and an array of customizable accessory packages. The Red package has several upgrades, including the new Anton Bauer QR-RH handle, Element Technica breakout box and Mantis handheld system, and rents for $500 a day.

There are two Panasonic choices, the DVX100a package renting for $110 a day, the Panasonic HVX200a package that starts at $300 a day. A Varicam is also available.

After moving to Chicago from Kalamazoo, Michigan to attend Columbia, Daufenbach began working as a Local 660 camera assistant and film loader on features shot in other Midwest states. He began offering services and equipment to his extended network before officially opening Daufenbach Camera in June.

He also has a rental outlet in Kalamazoo to service the increasing number of movie shoots in West Michigan.
