Christmas on the Ranch is on its way to becoming a new holiday classic as Tom’s Guide included the film in their list of Best Christmas movies of 2024, praising its mix of romance, heartfelt drama, and stunning visuals. Social media has been buzzing with fans sharing their love for the movie, with many calling it the perfect blend of cozy and romantic—a must-watch for those looking to get into the holiday spirit.
Directed by Danny Buday, known for Second Chance Christmas (2017) for UPtv, Country Christmas Album (2018) for ION Television. The film stars Daytime Emmy Award-winning actress Jade Harlow (Amazon’s The Bay) and Houston Rhines (A Christmas Switch). Joining them are several Chicago-based actors, including Saige Chaseley (Christmas with Felicity), Malkia Stampley (AMC’s 61st Street), and Amy Sloan (Apple TV’s Truth Be Told).
The story follows Christina Campbell (Jade Harlow), a talk show relationship expert, who finds herself ironically struggling in her own romantic life. Though she offers advice to thousands, her personal relationships are far from ideal. As Christmas approaches, a travel mishap leaves her stranded at a rural ranch, owned by the charming yet grounded Corey Henderson (Houston Rhines). As she spends time with Corey and his family, Christina learns that love may be worth taking a risk after all.
While the film is set in small-town Cedar Grove, Ohio — the beautiful, sprawling ranch settings and picturesque landscapes captured on screen were brought to life in the Chicago northern suburbs of Hawthorn Woods and Mundelein. The less-urbanized areas just outside the city, offered a blend of rustic charm and winter magic perfect for a Christmas movie.
