Chicago native, longtime character actor Mike Hagerty, has died at 67

Mike Hagerty, longtime character actor, best known as Mr. Teeger the building manager on Friends, passed away suddenly at 67.

Hagerty was born in Chicago and got his start in acting at Second City.

He has a long list of credits, having appeared in episodes of Cheers, Boston Legal, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Cheers, Community, CSI, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage, ER, Ghost Whisperer, Glee, The Goldbergs, Grey’s Anatomy, Happy Endings, Medium, The Mindy Project, Mob City, Monk, Seinfeld, Shameless, The Wayans Bros. and the original Wonder Years.

He most recently starred in the new Chicago series, Somebody Somewhere as farmer Ed Miller.


One of his most memorable scenes was on Season 4 of friends as Mr. Teeger the building manager who convinces Joey to help him practice ballroom dancing.


HBO sent the statement:

“We are very saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Mike Hagerty. A member of the HBO family for many years, his most recent role as Bridget Everett’s father in “Somebody Somewhere” showed his special talent for bringing heart to a performance. Mike was a joy to work with and brought warmth and kindness to all who knew him. We send our deepest condolences to his family and friends.“

Hagerty’s Somebody, Somewhere co-star Bridget Everett made several posts on Instagram.

Hagerty is survived by his wife Mary Kathryn, his sister Mary Ann Hagerty, her wife Kathleen O’Rourke, and their daughter Meg, according to Everett’s post. The cause of death has not been disclosed.
