Chicago Horror Film Festival bigger than ever

There’s something for everyone at the Chicago Horror Film Festival: 35 films, a Zombie Walk, an art market, live music, special effects artists and an onstage “I Want to Hear You Scream” contest and more.

Celebrating its 10th year with a Sept. 24-26 multimedia event, the festival is expected “to attract record numbers to fill the 1,300 seat Portage Theatre,” says founder Jason R. Davis.

The Horror Fest has enjoyed steady year-to-year growth, except for a dip last year that Davis blames on the economy. But Davis says he has renewed confidence about this year festival “with everything bouncing back so strongly.”

When David started the festival in 2001, it was one of only a handful of horror film fests in the U.S., but they’ve proliferated since then.

“Horror conventions grow more and more every year and soon I see them growing to levels that will rival the sci-fi and comic conventions,” Davis says.
