The summer hiatus may still have a few months to go, but the wheels are officially in motion for Chicago Fire Season 15. Sources tell Reel Chicago that production is scheduled to begin July 23, marking the next major milestone on the road to the NBC drama’s fall return.

There are already signs that Firehouse 51 is coming back to life. According to Fansided’s Cody Schultz, longtime director of photography Anthony J. Lullo recently shared behind-the-scenes images on Instagram that offered an early glimpse of the production ramp-up.

Another photo showed crew credentials laid out ahead of the new season, while another featured Lottie’s Pub, the real-life Chicago bar that serves as the exterior of Molly’s on the series.

With cameras expected to begin rolling this week, fans can also expect a familiar summer tradition: behind-the-scenes photos from cast and crew, location shoots across Chicago, and the inevitable social media spoilers that accompany production each year.

Additional clues are emerging behind the scenes as casting gets underway. Recent stand-in notices seeking Chicago-area talent that closely matches several principal cast members suggest that Severide, Kidd, Herrmann, Cruz, Mouch, Novak and Vasquez are all expected to be back in front of the cameras when filming begins. While stand-in casting is a standard part of pre-production and doesn’t reveal story details, it’s another indication that Season 15 is quickly coming together.

The activity follows a dramatic Season 14 finale, which premiered on October 1, 2025, and concluded its 21-episode run on May 13, 2026. The finale left much of Firehouse 51 in jeopardy after a catastrophic warehouse explosion trapped several firefighters, creating one of the series’ biggest cliffhangers in recent memory.

The episode also left viewers wondering what lies ahead for Kelly Severide, who faced a career-defining decision involving the Office of Fire Investigation, while Herrmann and Cindy renewed their vows and Cruz and Chloe prepared to welcome twins—all moments overshadowed by the explosive final minutes.

As production ramps up, fans shouldn’t have to wait long for the first set photos and official teases. And because Chicago Fire regularly films throughout Chicago and surrounding neighborhoods, it likely won’t be long before eagle-eyed fans begin spotting Firehouse 51 back on the streets.

With cameras set to roll and the crew already hard at work, the countdown to Season 15 has officially begun.
