We are all looking forward to the midseason premiere of the One Chicago franchise this week as Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D. return from their holiday hiatus with new episodes on Wednesday, January 8, 2025.
The midseason return will air consecutively on NBC in their familiar time slots, with Chicago Med at 7CST, Chicago Fire at 8CST, and Chicago P.D. at 9CST.
As the fall season ended, all three series delivered high-stakes drama, setting the stage for their highly anticipated midseason returns.
Chicago Fire
In the Chicago Fire fall finale, Firehouse 51 faced challenges both on and off duty. Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) and Mouch (Christian Stolte) prepared for career-defining advancement exams, balancing the pressure with their daily responsibilities at the station. Meanwhile, Joe Cruz (Joe Minoso) found himself entangled in a dangerous situation stemming from his brother Leon’s past involvement with the Insane Kings gang, threatening not only Leon but also the safety of Firehouse 51. The finale culminated in a dramatic rescue at an abandoned warehouse, where the team discovered evidence of arson and a cryptic warning, leaving viewers questioning who was behind the fire and why.
Here is the synopsis for the Chicago Fire midseason premiere:
Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 9, A Favor
Cruz’s past comes back to haunt him; Severide prepares to teach an arson class at the academy; Mouch searches for a victim’s next of kin.
Chicago P.D.
When Chicago P.D. concluded its fall segment, Officer Dante Torres (Benjamin Levy Aguilar) endured a devastating personal loss with the death of Gloria Perez (Yara Martinez), a former informant and romantic interest. Her murder struck an emotional chord, pushing Torres to the brink as he sought justice while grappling with guilt. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Reid (Shawn Hatosy) continued to exert pressure on the Intelligence Unit, challenging their methods and decisions.
Here is the synopsis for the Chicago P.D. midseason premiere:
Chicago P.D. Season 12, Episode 9, Friends and Family
Cook turns to her family when Intelligence faces administrative roadblocks that threaten a kidnapping investigation.
Chicago Med
Chicago Med left audiences on edge as Director Sharon Goodwin (S. Epatha Merkerson) confronted her stalker in a chilling standoff that put her safety and the hospital’s stability at risk. Dr. Dean Archer (Steven Weber) who came up to Goodwin’s office to slide his letter of resignation under her door, was shocked to see a bloodied Goodwin come running out of her office calling for help as the elevator doors closed on Archer.
Here is the synopsis for the Chicago Med midseason premiere:
Chicago Med Season 10, Episode 9, Flipping the Hour Glass
The team fights to save the life of one of their own; Frost and Abrams butt heads with their patient; Asher helps a religious young woman with an ectopic pregnancy.
As the Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago P.D. midseason premiere approaches, viewers can catch up on previous episodes of all three series, available for streaming on Peacock.
Additionally, fans can anticipate a major crossover event this season involving all three series on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.
The crossover storyline centers on a catastrophic gas explosion in a high-rise building, prompting Chicago’s first responders to undertake a massive rescue operation. The situation becomes even more dire as they race to save 40 individuals trapped underground, including two of their own team members.
Note, there will be a shift in the traditional show order, between Fire and Med. The crossover event will begin with Chicago Fire at 7CST, followed by Chicago Med at 8CST, and conclude with Chicago P.D. at 9CST. It makes sense, narratively, that the crossover would open with Chicago Fire called to the scene, followed by the treatment of victims on Chicago Med, then focusing on the police investigation on Chicago P.D..
