Chicago Fire and P.D. begin filming the new season

The cast and crew of Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. are the first of the One Chicago franchise to return to filming. They officially began their first day of the new season today on the stages at Cinespace Studios.

Chicago Med will begin filming on location in Chicago on Wednesday.

The Chicago Med sets for Gaffney Chicago Medical Center will likely be very busy during the filming of the season premiere. Chicago Med does most of their filming on the stages, but in addition, both Fire and P.D. will use the Gaffney set to film the followup to the cliffhanger finales on both shows.

Chicago Fire left us with Mouch (Christian Stolte) as a patient at Gaffney, in an alarming flatline after surgery from a gunshot wound, and in the finale of Chicago P.D., Rudzek (Patrick John Flueger) was fighting for his life as he was being rushed by ambulance to Gaffney.

There has been no indication that either actor is leaving One Chicago so we all hope that means they will both recover quickly and return to work.

Check back this week for exclusive photos of the first few days of filming on location.

What cast members will be leaving One Chicago?

Nick Gehlfuss, who plays Dr. Will Halstead made a surprise departure in the Chicago Med finale last season. Halstead rekindle his relationship with Dr. Natalie Manning (Torrey DeVitto) who has been gone from the show for two seasons. The two will live happily ever after along with her son, as Halstead joins her in Seattle to start over.

Tracy Spiridakos, who plays the role of Detective Hailey Upton, will be departing Chicago P.D. at some point this season. Jesse Lee Soffer, who plays Upton’s husband, Jay Halstead, will not be returning, although he may possibly appear briefly this season, depending on what the showrunner has in mind for Upton’s exit. In the last few exits, a lot of our characters have left to join their spouses, so they may have something else in mind for Upton. Not likely that she will take her newly adopted baby to Bolivia to join her husband in fighting the cartel. More likely, that her newfound motherhood might inspire her to find a more secure, less violent career path.

Kara Killmer, who plays the role of Sylvie Brett as a central character in Chicago Fire, has announced that she will be leaving the series this season. Jesse Spencer, who portrayed her love interest Matt Casey, exited the show in 2021 but has returned a number of times as a guest star. In the finale, Matt proposed to Sylvie, leaving a cliffhanger that now appears to be the way Sylvie will exit the show.

Check back to hear who the new cast members are for this new season. Chicago Med will introduce a new doctor.

Sadly, we can expect to see less screen time for all of our main characters in Chicago Fire, P.D. and Med. Not only can we expect fewer episodes this season due to the strikes, but cutbacks demand less time for our actors on set. You will see how they subtly work the reason for a missing team member into the script.
