There are very few editors in the midwest with ACE at the end of their name. Chicago editor, Steve Hullfish, ACE is now one of them.

The American Cinema Editors (ACE) is an honorary society of film editors. Members are voted in based on the qualities of professional achievements, their education of others, and their dedication to editing.

Recently, Hullfish was called by Kevin Tent, the president of the American Cinema Editors to give him the good news of his acceptance into the prestigious cinema guild.

“I am so proud to announce that I have been accepted into the American Cinema Editors,” said Hullfish. “I’m officially Steve Hullfish, ACE. I’m overjoyed at this recognition! Special thanks to Walter Murch, Joe Walker, Alan Bell, and John Axelrad for their help in getting me in!”

Hullfish has been part of the Chicago production and post-production world since the mid 80s, starting as a cameraman on Chicago sports programming including Bulls Beat, UIC college football, basketball, hockey and regional football. Even working with Chicago legend Bob Luce on a pro-wrestling show and Golden Gloves boxing.

Hullfish has worked for both WPWR-TV and Fox 32 in the promo departments and in 1992, founded the Chicago Avid Editors Group at a time when Avid was just starting to make in-roads in the Chicago post world.

He went to work for Del Hall Video in 1993 where he edited for The Oprah Winfrey Show, numerous Bill Kurtis Productions titles and various ad campaigns.

In 2002 he went to work for Big Idea Studios, the producers of VeggieTales while they were working on their first animated feature film, Jonah: A VeggieTales Movie

When Big Idea moved to Nashville – and was later purchased by NBC/Universal, Hullfish struck out on his own, creating a production company called Verascope Pictures which did work for Blue Chip clients around the country. He also began working as a film editor on feature films including Courageous, War Room, Overcomer, and Champion

Last year, he spent much of his time in NYC editing 9 episodes of the TV series Gravesend which is currently available on Amazon Prime.
