Chicago Design Week
October 27 – November 3
featuring workshops
walking tours
and panel discussions

From October 27 through November 3, Chicago Design Week 2018 Design In Motion will focus on an examination of the evolving definitions, responsibilities, and societal expectations shaping the modern designer through a diverse lineup of programming presented by Chicago-based studios, organizations, museums, schools, and more.

Chicago Design Week—an annual week of design-focused programming currently in its 8th year—is a community-supported platform. Earlier this summer, a committee comprised of representatives from AIGA Chicago, the Society of Typographic Arts, the Design Museum of Chicago, and MAS Context invited all members of the design community to submit proposals for Chicago Design Week programming that explored the “Design in Motion” theme. Interpretation in regards to topic and format was left entirely up to the submitter.

“It’s critically important for us to leverage the Chicago Design Week platform as a vehicle to amplify conversations and connect perspectives and points of view from across our city,” said David Sieren, President of AIGA Chicago. “This is a chance to listen, support, and elevate.”

This year’s lineup includes a range of activities from hands-on workshops to site-specific installations, walking tours, design sprints, panel discussions and more—aimed at engaging students, practitioners, and aficionados of any age. The programming encompasses design in all the ways it manifests today—from graphic to experience to architecture and beyond—while reflecting topics top-on-the-minds of the Chicago design community.

“Design Week wouldn’t be possible without the efforts and dedication of the organizations and individuals who ultimately make the programming possible,” said Kelly Knaga, Executive Director of AIGA Chicago. “The rich variety of events and activities on deck, along with the range of hosts, from big agencies to passionate individuals, are a testament to the character of Chicago’s design landscape today.”
