Chicago Advertising Federation to screen Sons of Toledo followed by Q&A

Sons of Toledo
Marc Temple

Join the Chicago Advertising Federation’s Diversity Thought Leadership Council and the AAF Toledo for a screening of the film Sons of Toledo, followed by a moderated conversation with the filmmakers and cast.

Beautifully written by Matt Foss and Monty Cole and directed by Monty Cole, Sons of Toledo features the Black barbers and community members of Toledo and is based on the true stories of Toledo’s Black barber community.

After receiving the early morning news of his younger brother’s murder, a mourning barber pushes through the muddy waters of grief to find the courage to do the impossible – give his brother one last cut.

“Part narrative, part documentary, this project is something really special,” says Cole. “Between Matt Foss’ connection to this community and the urgent need for this film, it was an honor to work on this film. The grief that Marc is going through and the unfair expectations of how he’s meant to hold that grief is something I deeply felt. And to see the community of Toledo gather around the film as it relates to gun violence in their city has been nothing short of breathtaking.”

The film will screen on Monday, October 24, 2022 from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm at the Davis Theater 4614 N Lincoln Ave, Chicago.
