Alexan highlights Chelios Massage in new video

To highlight the power of the Chelios Massage Method, Chicago filmmaker Kamelya Alexan created a promotional video that opens with a testimonial from Chicago Blackhawk Chris Chelios, a satisfied customer of the technique developed by his sister, Penny.

The Chelios Massage Method flushes out a painful buildup of waste and soft tissue under the skin by inducing a whole body friction release through a process of surrender and manipulation called surripulation.

“I tried a lot of massage, but this was totally different,” says the hockey star. “I like the science, and I love the results.”

Combining a procedural demonstration with action footage, scientific graphics, and an additional testimonial from former Chicago Cub Randy Hundley, the two-and-a-half minute video delivers its message with gusto. Along the way, it stirs enthusiasm for tomorrow’s Grand Opening Celebration of the new Chelios Massage clinic in Oak Brook.

Behind the scenes
“Penny treats every person regardless of their background, but she also works on a lot of professional athletes,” says Alexan, who also handles business development and marketing at Periscope Post & Audio. “That’s where I wanted to focus the story.”

Filming at the Weber Center, a multifunctional sports facility in Skokie, Alexan and DP Louis Fisher overcame a startling variety challenges to capture the majority of people featured in the video.

“We shot at a golf course, an ice rink, a massage room, and an aerobics studio all contained within this one spot,” says Alexan, who has known about the location since her childhood.

“I used to go ice-skating there,” she adds.

Captured on “the last 70-degree day in October,” the interviews came alive through Fisher’s “tremendous” expertise and Camera Ambassador’s “super helpful” gear and attitude.

As the main narrator, Penny Chelios offers a friendly complement to the occasionally technical nature of the message. Her celebrity patients do a great job as well.

“Chris Chelios and Randy Hundley were both on cue, they spoke from the heart, and they said what was true to them,” says Alexan. “That was exactly what we wanted for the video.”

When it came time for post, Periscope editor Mike James had exactly what she needed.

“Early this year, Mike completed the edit for Pooh: Derrick Rose Story, which won a Chicago Midwest Emmy last week,” she explains. “He was the perfect person for this project, because it featured a sports icon.”

Premiering today, the video reflects a superior degree of professional teamwork while helping to make a personal dream come true.

“To sit next to a three-time Stanley Cup champion and Hall of Famer is truly an honor,” says Alexan. “Directing Randy was also a pleasure. He showed up to set with his Chicago Cubs ring and he let everyone on set wear it.”
