Cast of Groundhog Day will gather at Navy Pier to honor Harold Ramis

The cast of the beloved 1993 Chicago made comedy, Groundhog Day is slated to come together in Chicago on February 2, Groundhog Day, to honor the late Harold Ramis in the 10th anniversary of his passing.

The celebration, to be held at Harry Caray’s Tavern Navy Pier, offers fans an opportunity to pay tribute to his exceptional contributions to the film industry.

Cast members such as Brian Doyle-Murray (Buster Green), Stephen Tobolowsky (Ned Ryerson), Marita Geraghty (Nancy Taylor), Robin Duke (Doris the Waitress), David Pasquesi (the Psychiatrist), Peggy Roeder (the Piano Teacher) and Richard Henzel (the DJ), will gather to mark the first official reunion of the celebrated cast since the movie’s release. The participation of Bill Murray and Andie MacDowell is anticipated, pending their availability.

When the alarm clock flips from 2:59 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. and “I Got You Babe” plays, all will gather to commemorate Harold Ramis’ life and accomplished career in film. Erica Mann Ramis, Harold Ramis’ wife, along with various cast members, will share cherished memories and anecdotes about the legendary filmmaker.

Brian Doyle-Murray, taking on the role of Buster Green, the “President of the Chicago Groundhog Club,” will lead the Groundhog Day Ceremony. Chicago Harry, a live groundhog, will make his downtown debut, emerging from his tree stump to make a weather prediction. Alderman Brendan Reilly will read a proclamation declaring it Harold Ramis Day in Chicago.

Recreating iconic memories of Groundhog, Harry Caray’s Tavern will offer food and beverages inspired by the movie’s Tip Top Café, a snowman, and large ice sculptures, similar to those seen in the movie. Various artifacts will be showcased from Harold Ramis’ illustrious career, including the Armani coat Bill Murray wore in Groundhog Day, the bust of Harold Ramis that appeared in the 2016 version of Ghostbusters, the jumpsuits worn by Harold Ramis and Bill Murray in Ghostbusters, and several of Harold’s leather-bound shooting scripts.

Navy Pier will also participate in the festivities. The film and soundtrack will play inside the Fifth Third Bank Family Pavilion and an image of a groundhog will be featured as the centerpiece of the Centennial Wheel. Various restaurants on the Pier will be doing Groundhog Day specials, and Navy Pier’s Sable Hotel will be calling itself the “Pennsylvanian Hotel” for the day in honor of the hotel featured in the movie.

Chicago native, Harold Ramis, who passed away on February 24, 2014, left his mark on the film industry with classic films such as Ghostbusters, Caddyshack, and Groundhog Day. His work continues to be celebrated by fans worldwide.

Groundhog Day was released in 1993 and directed by Ramis, starring Bill Murray, Andie MacDowell, and Chris Elliott, the film has left a lasting impact on popular culture.
