CAFM celebrates 13 with zoom costume party

The Chicago Acting In Film Meetup NFP (CAFM) celebrates 13 years as a Meetup group with an online costume party for everyone.

The “2020 CAFM Summer Social Costume Party (on ZOOM)!” happens Friday, August 28, 2020 from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on the Zoom platform.

The fundraiser is open to the entire Chicago film production community and the general public.  Admission tickets are $13 through Thursday, August 27, 2020 at midnight.  For tickets, VISIT EVENTBRITE HERE.

“It’s our first public party during this pandemic,” says CAFM Board President Steve Scholz, “and we’re going online to bring the film community together for a night.  Film fans, film actors, filmmakers, and other film industry professionals are welcome to join us.  We figure that if you’re going to be stuck at home, you might as well dress up as your favorite character and decorate your Zoom background to win some prizes.”

Since 2007, CAFM has helped Chicago’s film actors co-mentor each other and connect with the film production community at large.  Along with their members-only monthly educational events, they have held public and industry events including their Holiday Hurrahs, CIMMFest panels, and an Actors Clothing Swap, and they have hosted “Happy Hours” with the Chicago Creatives Cocktail Party (CCCP).

They also partnered with Community TV Network (CTVN) for a short film project, and have helped the Food For Friends program at Church of Our Saviour, plus other nonprofit charities like Hephzibah Children’s Association, Care for Real, and Peace On Earth Film Festival.

The 2020 admission price includes access to the online event plus networking and community building opportunities.  Those who dress in costume or decorate their Zoom backgrounds could win prizes for Best Costume, Best Zoom Background, and Best Combination.  And all ticket buyers will be entered to win a $150 Visa Gift Card at the party.

“CAFM knows it’s tough for everyone right now,” says Michal Kokoszka, Co-Chair of CAFM’S Fundraising Committee, “so we’re offering prizes that could help you whether you’re staying at home or needing a break.  Like a $25 Starbucks gift card, or two canoe or kayak rentals from Reed’s Canoe Trips in Kankakee, Illinois.  Just grab a costume that works for you, get creative with your background, and you could win big.”

For people who can’t attend, donations can also be made to the group’s “$13 For The 13th” Funrdaising Campaign.  While this does not provide a ticket to the party, all donations are tax deductible, and every donor’s name will be shared on the CAFM social media channels and at the party.  Proceeds from the event and the campaign will help fund the nonprofit group’s ongoing educational work, special industry events, and giving back outreach.

“We’re grateful to everyone who has helped us reach our 13th Anniversary,” says Scholz.  “So get ready to party with some of the smartest working actors in Chicago.  Raise a glass from wherever you are, and dress for the Zoom meeting you really want to attend.  We’d love to see you in costume August 28th!”

Must be 21 or older to attend.  For more details and to purchase tickets online or make a donation, VISIT EVENTBRITE HERE.
