An estimated 1,000 guests showed up at the Cubby Bear Thursday night to cheer the six “Battle of the Advertising Bands” that raised $50,000 (and still counting) to send kids from Off The Street Club (OTSC) to summer camp.
Six bands whose musician members are staffers at their respective agencies, played covers of popular songs in continuous 20-30 minute sets, from 7 to 10:15 p.m.
Winner of the third annual 2015 Battle for Hope, as the musical fund-raiser is called, was Cramer-Krasselt’s “Angry PiCKles” with a set that included Kanye West’s “Stronger.”
Runners up were Abelson Taylor’s “Hard to Swallow” and DigitasLBi’s “The Deliverables.” The other bands performing were Energy BBDO’s “Logo Grande,” Jellyvision’s “Ryan and the DeGiorgis” and Weber Shandwick’s “RFP.”
Winners were selected by a combination of ticket sales, audience text votes and scores received by judges: Lawrence Arms’ bassist/vocalist Brendon Kelly, singer and “Big Break” judge Kelli Ann Lotrich, and Valslist.com founder/CEO Vall Haller.
A video of the Club’s kids doing a dance of their own that showcased OTSC was presented by Ralph Campagna, OTSC’s long time director. He said that “Battle’s” proceeds would help 700 boys and girls escape the daily violence, drugs and abuse that surround them every day by spending two fun, safe weeks at OTSC’s summer camp in Wheaton.
DigitasLBi executives, Sujal Patel, Simon Kissler and Kris English, founded “The Battle for Hope” in 2013 as a fundraiser for Off the Street Club.
