Braincase a new boutique music shop

Feeling the time was right to strike out on his own, composer/producer Brian Crane has opened Braincase, a music and sound design shop at 225 W. Huron.

Crane said in equipping the 1,100-sq. ft. space, “I went for high end gear, like Focus Right and Avalon mike preamps, a Power Mac G5 with two gigabytes.” There’s a live room and a ProTools room.

Crane spent two years at I Dig Music and five years earlier with Comtrack (now Comma). Having hit age 30, he decided “this is the perfect time for me to exercise my entrepreneurial spirit working in my own company. I will stay in the commercial realm. I feel a small boutique shop like this gives me a chance to be really creative and service-oriented.”

He has composed for such national commercials as JC Penney/DDB, Nestle’s/JWT, Hotwheels and S.C.Johnson/FCB, “so I’m not really starting from scratch in the business,” Crane said.

Crane’s phone number is 312/654-8272; Email to brian@braincasemusic.com.
