The Big Teeth Small Shorts Film Festival

First-ever
global event
launches with
inaugural
screening at
Empirical Brewery
on October 17

Fresh off the fifth consecutive year of hosting its 60-Second Film Festival as part of the Ravenswood Art Walk, Big Teeth Productions is expanding further into the world of film festival production with the launch of the Big Teeth Small Shorts Film Festival (BTSSFF).

Based on the overwhelmingly positive feedback from filmmakers and audiences alike, the BTSSFF will expand into a quarterly film festival that celebrates short form storytelling from new and truly independent filmmakers from all over the world in the form of small shorts (films up to five minutes in length) and micro shorts (up to one minute in length).

The first live screening will take place on Thursday October 17 at Empirical Brewery, where select films will be judged by festival attendees as well as a jury of artists, advertising, and film professionals.

Judging criteria includes quality, creativity, and the power and innovation of film ideas.

Unique and fun style
“There are tons of talented filmmakers who either can’t afford to make longer films or believe in very short form storytelling,” says Gregg Jaffe, Big Teeth Owner, Creative Director and BTSSFF Founder. “We want to give them a platform to showcase their work.”

Citing “first-hand” experience with the film industry, he says that “a strong desire for more short-form storytelling” will help BTSSFF films get the views they deserve.

“Most shorts categories are 40 minutes or less, so there’s a strong likelihood a three-minute short will be overlooked,” he explains. “By focusing on this unique and fun style of filmmaking, we can fill a void in the film fest community and give emerging filmmakers a chance to show who they are in just a few seconds.”

60 Second Film Festival
The Small Shorts Film Festival promises to quintuple the fun of Big Teeth’s annual 60-second Film Festival, which had its fifth run at the company’s Ravenswood studio last month.

One of the Chicago creative community’s most beloved traditions, this year’s 60 Second Film Fest program included screenings every fifteen minutes, free craft beer, delicious popcorn, and the nearby Ravenswood Art Walk, making it “the best way to spend 15 minutes this year,” according to the hosts.
