AbelsonTaylor, the world’s largest independent medical advertising agency, has hired Beth Carik as vice president of human resources, replacing Linda Phillips, who retired at the end of 2018 after 14 years of service.

Responsible for leading the agency’s recruitment, orientation, benefits and career-development activities, Carik will help AbelsonTaylor continue to attract and retain the industry’s best talent, while seeking new ways of enhancing productivity and employee satisfaction.

This will include programs to continually advance staff skills and provide career support and ensuring that AbelsonTaylor remains competitive in terms of professional opportunities, compensation and benefits.

She reports to Keith Stenlund, executive vice president and chief financial officer.

“Beth brings more than a decade of agency HR experience to her new position and is well-positioned to contribute to AbelsonTaylor’s growth,” said Stenlund. “She knows the essentials of superior HR management and understands the importance of building and sustaining a culture that motivates and inspires its employees. Her background, vision and enthusiasm make her a welcome addition to our leadership team.”

Before joining AbelsonTaylor, Carik worked for nearly 10 years as vice president of human resources in the Chicago office of Critical Mass, a global digital experience design firm. Her achievements there included partnering with agency leads to identify and set career paths and succession plans for top talent, training employees to serve as career developers, and managing all U.S. HR operations.

Previously, Carik worked as senior manager of human resources at Upshot, a Chicago-based marketing agency. She also worked in HR management for two other Chicago-based firms, RPM Advertising and Synovate (formerly Market Facts).

Carik is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and holds several professional certifications including Certified Professional in Human Resources (PHR), Certified Facilitator for DDI (Developmental Dimensions International) Learning Systems, and Society for Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP).

A Chicago resident, Carik earned a Bachelor of Science in family and child studies from Northern Illinois University in Dekalb. Outside of work, she is an avid baker and a serious fan of the Chicago Bears.
