Best feature “Feed the Fish” tops BMA awards

The Rockitt Bar & Grill, the site of several successive film studios, was the fitting venue Tuesday night for the Best of the Midwest Independent Film Festival awards, cheered on by a noisy capacity crowd of 400 filmmakers.

Wisconsin-made “Feed the Fish” took the top honor as Best Feature, and racked up five nominations out of the eight categories.

“Feed the Fish,” wryly called “a true fish-out-water comedy,” was shot in Door County in 2009. Written and directed by Michael Matzdorff, it starred Green Bay native Tony Shalhoub.

Winners in the other seven categories were:

Best Director to Steve James, for his doc, “No Crossover: The Trial of Allen Iverson;”

Best Screenplay: Ron Lazzeretti, “Something Better Somewhere Else;”
