As Chicago P.D. settles into Season 13, Benjamin Levy Aguilar in his role as Officer Dante Torres has become one of the more grounded storylines in a year marked by shifting dynamics inside Intelligence. Torres isn’t the loudest presence in the room, but Aguilar’s performance has grown increasingly assured, giving the unit a quieter counterbalance as the show navigates cast changes and new story directions.

Introduced in Season 9 and bumped up to series regular the following year, Torres entered the unit as a young officer with a complicated past. Early storylines leaned into his instincts, his rough edges, and his struggle to reconcile where he came from with the expectations of the badge. This season, the series has moved him into a more grounded space. His choices feel more deliberate, and Aguilar plays him with a subtle shift—less reactive, more measured—reflecting a character who’s learning how to navigate Sgt. Hank Voight’s (Jason Beghe) expectations while maintaining his own sense of right and wrong.

Aguilar handles that shift well. His performance has become more internal, textured, and confident, especially in scenes where Torres pushes back or stands firm in his perspective. It’s a progression that feels earned, not staged. While much of the season’s spotlight has naturally fallen on larger arcs around Intelligence, Torres continues to contribute in ways that reinforce why the character works: tactical skill, emotional restraint, and a point of view shaped by lived experience rather than TV polish.

Fans have responded to that balance, and the show has increasingly used Torres as the connective tissue between the veteran detectives and the newer voices in the room. Whether the season ultimately gives him a major standalone episode remains to be seen, but Aguilar’s presence has helped stabilize the unit during a period of transition.

For a series 13 seasons deep, finding new angles is never easy. Torres isn’t a dramatic reinvention — he’s a solid addition who brings something different without distracting from the core identity of Chicago P.D.. Aguilar seems to be settling into the role with an ease that suggests he’ll remain a significant part of the show’s fabric as the season continues.

You can watch Benjamin Levy Aguilar on Chicago P.D. airing on One Chicago Wednesdays on NBC and Peacock.
