The Bat is back in Chi.

But it’s not Christian Bale’s Batman, which used Chicago as a backdrop for Gotham City from 2005 – 2012 in Christopher Nolan’s infamous Dark Knight trilogy.

This time it’s Orange is the New Black’s and The Meg’s Ruby Rose as Kate Kane otherwise known as Batwoman. The CW pilot is using Chicago for exterior scenes this week.

The pilot has been shooting in Vancouver, British Columbia where other CW shows Supernatural, The Flash, Arrow and Supergirl film.

According to The Chicago Tribune, filming is expected to take place at Federal Plaza, outside the Chicago Board of Trade Building, near Michigan Avenue and Wacker Drive, on the Clark Street Bridge and outside the Cook County Building.

Rose plays the titular character, who the CW describes as an “out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out” Gotham’s criminal resurgence.

Rose — who identifies as gender fluid — played Batwoman in the recent three-way Arrowverse “Elseworlds” TV crossover, which also was filmed here briefly.

The series also stars, Elizabeth Anweis (Twin Peaks) plays Catherine Hamilton-Kane, the stepmother of Kate Kane. Dougray Scott (My Week With Marilyn) plays Kane’s father. Meagan Tandy. Camrus Johnson, Nicole Kang and Rachel Skarsten also star.

With Arrow leaving the CW, after 10 episodes, in the 2019-2020 season, it is almost a given that Batwoman will replace the Stephen Amell series that kicked off the current run of superhero shows.

Right now the newest addition to the Arrowverse is the only TV pilot filming in Chicago this spring. Hopefully, there will be more.
